Identity Is a Behaviour, Not a Logo

Why we design how an identity acts before we design how it looks.

Clients often ask to see the logo first. We understand why, but the logo is rarely where an identity succeeds or fails.

Start with what the identity does

Before sketching, we write down the situations the identity must handle: a sold-out notice, a cancelled show, a sponsor announcement, a line-up with sixty names. Each one is a behaviour, and each one tells us more than a moodboard.

For Axis, the key behaviour was change. The platform launches new formats every season, so the identity needed a rule for transformation, not a fixed shape. That is how the rotating axis line was born.

A logo is the last mile

Once the behaviours are clear, the logo often designs itself. It becomes the smallest expression of a system that already knows how to move, speak and adapt.

If a team can predict how the identity will react to a new situation, the system is working.
